When God created Adam and Eve, they were in a perfect union with God until they sinned and were banished from Eden. Even though God cast them out, He did not let them leave without a plan. He made garments of skin to clothe their nakedness, the first shedding of blood in the Bible. This was the first outward showing of God’s grace and the first step in God’s plan for our salvation. It foreshadows Jesus naked on the cross and the shedding of His blood as God’s plan to clothe us with His grace.
